The Wednesday Season Scrapbook 1902/03: The Closest Finish

The 1902/03 season was the closest run contest for the Championship at the highest level of English Football that has ever been seen. With only two weeks of the season remaining any one of no less than eight clubs, almost half the entire number, could theoretically have taken the title. It was a season when two teams, West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa, had all-conquering runs during the course of the season, but neither won the title. Rather it was a case of the tortoise and the hare, as the dogged consistency of Wednesday finally saw them win through. This is the story of that season, by the press coverage of the time.

Every match of the season covered, including full period match report and additional commentary by the author.
